American River Nutrition Educating Health Care Providers on Vitamin E and Tocotrienol Research

Hadley, Massachusetts (August 28, 2017) -American River Nutrition founder Dr. Barrie Tan, notable expert in the field of vitamin E tocopherols and tocotrienols, is delivering presentations to health care provider groups to bring them up to date on the different forms of vitamin E, and what current research has revealed about their benefits and limitations.

Most medical schools have little education on nutrition and dietary supplements in the curriculum; what they do get is fairly general, and not necessarily current. Dr. Tan is filling that gap by providing information on the present thinking about vitamin E, specifically tocotrienols, one health care professional group at a time.

On September 8, Dr. Tan will give a presentation to members of the International Academy of Oral Medicine & Toxicology (IAOMT) at their annual meeting in Las Vegas, NV. IAOMT is an organization for dentists, physicians, and allied health researchers who consider biocompatibility to be their first concern and demand scientific evidence as their key criterion.

In June, Dr. Tan gave an online presentation to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, which, with over 75,000 members, is the world’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals. Future presentations and radio interviews are planned.

“Because research for decades focused on the biological activities and underlying mechanisms of alpha-tocopherol, many health care professionals do not know about other forms, specifically tocotrienols,” said Dr. Tan. “Tocotrienols have proven to contain some exceptional benefits, with recent research focused on inflammatory disorders such as cardiovascular disease and cancer. Research has also found that alpha-tocopherol may undermine the benefits of other forms of vitamin E, tocopherols and tocotrienols, so it’s important that health care providers have this information.”

Dr. Tan’s presentations are comprehensive, touching on significant highlights in vitamin E research since its discovery, differentiating between the two subgroups of vitamin E (tocopherols and tocotrienols), and reviewing the sources and compositions of tocotrienols. Dr. Tan describes recent discoveries, such as alpha-tocopherol interference with tocotrienol functions, along with the anti-inflammatory properties observed with tocotrienol application in cardiovascular and metabolic disease, cancer, bone disorder and radiation exposure.
